Students: homework and quizzes

Submitting work, and the rules that apply while a timed quiz is open.

Everything your teachers set is under Assessments. Your Home page shows what is due soonest, so start there.

Handing work in

Open the assessment and read the instructions. Depending on what your teacher set, you will either:

  • Write an answer — type it in. You can attach files or photographs of your work, up to five.
  • Answer questions — multiple choice or short answers, marked automatically as soon as you submit.

Your work is saved as you go, so losing signal does not lose your answers. It is not handed in until you submit.

Timed quizzes

Some quizzes have a time limit. Read this before you start one.

The clock runs on the school's server, not your phone. Closing the app, losing signal or turning the screen off does not pause it. You will be warned as the time runs low, and when it runs out the quiz is submitted automatically with whatever you have answered.

Full screen. The quiz fills the screen. If your browser cannot do this, you will not be able to start — try a different browser, or ask your teacher.

Leaving the quiz. Switching to another app or another tab counts as leaving.

  • A brief interruption is ignored. An incoming call or a notification will not count against you.
  • Leave properly and you get a warning.
  • Leave properly a second time and the quiz is submitted there and then, with whatever you have answered.

So: before you begin, find somewhere quiet, make sure your battery will last, and do not go and look anything up.

After you submit

Your mark appears once your teacher has marked it. Auto-marked questions are scored immediately; written answers wait for your teacher.

If your teacher has chosen to, the correct answers become visible after the due date — but only once your own work has been submitted and marked.

Something went wrong

  • The submit button failed — it retries by itself a few times. If it still fails, stay on the page and try again; do not close it.
  • You cannot start a quiz — usually the full-screen requirement, or the due date has passed.
  • Your mark looks wrong — tell your teacher. They can see your answer sheet question by question.

Returning to unfinished work

Draft text, quiz answers and staged attachments are saved in this browser on this device. Check the saving status before leaving; a storage error means the draft has not been saved. Uploading a file is separate from submitting your work.

If your session expires when you submit, sign in again to return to the same assessment with your saved draft. A timed quiz’s deadline continues during the interruption. Successful submission clears the local draft. Shared-device users should discard unfinished drafts they do not want to leave in the browser.
