Setting work

Create walks you through it: the class and subject, a title, instructions, a due date, and how it will be answered.

You can assign the same piece of work to several classes at once. Each class gets its own independent copy, so you mark and adjust them separately.

Ways students can answer:

• A written or uploaded response — they type a note and can attach files or photos of their work.
• Multiple choice — the system marks it for you, the moment it is submitted.
• Fill in the answer — also marked automatically, with sensible tolerance for spelling and for numbers written differently.

Writing the questions

Type them in, or bring them in:

• Import from Excel — a spreadsheet of questions
• Import from a Word document — a question paper you already have

Questions can carry an image or attachment. Answer keys for auto-marked questions are kept on the server and are never sent to the student's browser.

Exam mode

Optional, for tests that should be sat properly.

• A time limit, counted by the server, so closing the laptop does not stop the clock.
• Full screen, with the quiz filling the screen and the app's own chrome hidden.
• One question per page, if you want it.

If a student leaves the quiz — switches app, opens another tab — they are warned. Brief interruptions are ignored: an incoming call or a notification is not treated as leaving. Leave properly twice and the attempt is submitted automatically with whatever has been answered.

A browser that cannot go full screen cannot start an exam-mode quiz at all. If a student reports being unable to begin, that is usually why — see Students: homework and quizzes.

Marking

Open the assessment to see who has submitted. Auto-marked questions are already scored; you mark the written ones and add feedback per student.

For multiple choice you also get a per-question breakdown — which questions the class got wrong, and each student's answer sheet. It is the fastest way to find the topic to reteach.

Letting students see the answers

You can reveal answers after the due date. It applies to a student who has actually submitted and been marked — nobody sees an answer key by waiting.

Counting the work toward a report card

Tag an assessment with the score component it belongs to and it counts toward that component automatically. See Entering marks for how the arithmetic works.

Only the person who created an assessment can edit, delete or re-tag it.
